Word of the Meeting: BLISSFUL

What a blissful evening!

The meeting may have been shorter than usual as we only had two prepared speeches, but it was not short on either energy or fun. Our Toastmaster, Rowena kept levels high with assistance from the “ever-popular” Cadbury Celebrations which were passed around the room and to keep us feeling the holiday vibe, she asked each of the speakers/role-holders to recount their favourite holiday experience.

Angie was the first speaker of the evening. It was for her project #3 in the Competent Communication manual “Get to the point” with the speech entitled “How much is your time really worth”. Angie recommended that we make the most out of our time by winning the morning, and this is done by using “SAVERS” strategy, that is; Silence, Affirmation, Visualisation, Exercise, Reading and Scribing that are all to be done before 8am in the morning. No excuses! Let us try!

JT followed with her 2rd speech in the Interpretive Reading Advance manual “Poem by Maya Angelou”. The themes of the poem; the pulse in the morning, change, inclusion and responsibility. Even though it was written over 30 years ago, it still resonated with us.

The Table Topics master for the second half of the evening was our President, Anqi, with a theme of Guinness World Records.

Thank you to our evaluators Suz, Zhenzhen & Barbora, and to our grammarian, Rochelle for providing the word of the day (bliss) and to our timekeeper, Marianna.

As we only had two speaker, we didn’t vote for the Best Speaker. The Best Table Topics was awarded to Zhenzhen for the amazing things she can do with THREE watermelons (!!), and the Best Evaluator went to Suz who was undertaking this role for the first time. Congratulations, Zhenzhen and Suz!
